2024 WM Phoenix Open Trends

Winning Score
Has ranged from -14 to -19 over the past TEN years.

Phoenix Open odds
We've not had a winner starting at over 50/1 since 2014. Kevin Stadler took the title that year but this is a difficult venue for outsiders to win.  You may want to focus on the front of the betting when making your Phoenix Open picks.

Correlating Courses
Look for strong performances at other desert events such as The American Express and Shriners Children's Open.

Course Form
Brooks Koepka won on his debut in 2015, but the following eight champions each recorded a top 10 finish prior to winning.  Side with strong course experience when looking to make your Phoenix Open selections.

Recent Form
You don't need to be in blistering form to win. Although four of the past eight champions have recorded a prior top 12 finish, Brooks Koepka, Gary Woodland and Hideki Matsuyama won following poor starts to the season.

Nationality
Of the last 14 champions, only Hideki Matsuyama's wins in 2017 and 2018 prevent it from being a clean sweep of Americans.

Previous PGA Tour wins
Eight of the last eleven winners had won on Tour before winning in Phoenix.

2024 WM Phoenix Open Stats Analysis

We are looking for a player with high SG: Approach stats.

SG: Off The Tee
The last seven winners have ranked 18th, 4th, 11th, 26th, 3rd, 20th and 13th.  Strong driving is preferred.

SG: Approach
Five of the past seven winners have ranked inside the top 3 for SG: Approach.

SG: Around The Green
The best ranking of any of the past seven winners is 8th (Scheffler, 2022).

SG: Putting
We've seen varied putting performances from the winners over the past seven years.  Rankings of 13th, 2nd, 18th, 15th, 1st, 23rd and 59th indicate that a competent putting performance is required but it doesn't necessarily have to be exceptional.

2024 Phoenix Open In-Play Golf Betting Advice

Fast or Slow Start
Three of the last five winners have been outside the top 15 after the opening round.  However, four of the last five winners were inside the top eight at the halfway stage.  This is a course where you don't necessarily need (or want) to be leading early on.

Bogey Holes
Holes eleven, twelve and fourteen trradtionally play as three of the hardest holes on the course.  The par five thirteenth hole offers a little respite in between but par is a good score on these three holes.

Closing stretch
The 16th is infamous as the loudest hole in golf.  A par three that can intimidate even the most confident of golfers, it is a tricky hole to be navigated.  The 17th is a driveable par 4 but water lurks ont he left hand side.  The 18th hole is no pushover either, with a demanding drive over water and bunkers waiting for players who try to take a safer line.

2024 Phoenix Open Round 3 Conditions

Cool and damp to start with but conditions eased up as the day wore on.

2024 Phoenix Open Round 4 Weather Bias?

No bias today, perfect scoring conditions.

Round 3 Outright Market Summary

We still have around 30 holes of this event left and it remains a hard one to call. Taylor and Theegala are slightly out on front but dangers lurk in the shape of Jordan Spieth, Scottie Scheffler and Justin Thomas who are all within touching distance. The stand out price of 13/2 at Skybet for Scheffler makes some appeal, as does the 22/1 for Sam Burns. Taylor has been leading for a long time now and that may take it's toll, we expect Theegala to be the man to beat today.

Eye Catching Niche Market Prices - Phoenix Open

8 of the last 16 events here have been a playoff and you can get 10/3 at Bet365 for another one this week. We expect things to tighten up with over the final round and this looks a value price.

2024 Phoenix Open Round 2 Conditions

The course played a lot easier yesterday with little wind and soft conditions.

2024 Phoenix Open Round 2 Weather Bias?

Rain is forecast for the morning and temperatures will remain low. The wind shouldn't be much of a factor and overall the course should be scoreable. Round two will need to be completed first with the majority of the Am-PM starters still to play most of their rounds.

Round 2 Outright Market Summary

Scottie Scheffler remains favourite despite being four behind the leaders. He looked terrific towards the end of his round yesterday and tee to green game is back at the levels we expect. It's hard not to see him contending and we wouldn't be fading him the way he is playing.

Eye Catching Niche Market Prices - Phoenix Open

Nothing of note.

2024 Phoenix Open Round 1 Conditions

Unusually cold conditions in Scottsdale with wind and rain all throughout the morning leading to an interruption of play with waterlogged greens. The course played much easier for the afternoon starters after the resumption of play.

2024 Phoenix Open Round 2 Weather Bias?

The wind won't play much of a part today however it is cold first thing in the morning, meaning the course will play longer initially. We would still favour those with holes left to play today though, as they should get near perfect second round conditions. Theegala and co will have to finish off their rounds on Saturday with more miserable weather forecast.

Round 2 Outright Market Summary

Scottie Scheffler remains favourite despite Theegala's hot start and we certainly wouldn't be fading Scheffler given his course record here and strong start with his ball striking. A cold putter has limited him to one under par through six holes but you have to expect him to be in the top five at halfway.

Eye Catching Niche Market Prices - Phoenix Open

Kevin Yu to beat Nate Lashley and Tyson Alexander - 13/10 @ Betfair/Paddy Power - This is a stand out price as everywhere else has priced Yu up at around evens. Yu struck the ball brilliantly yesterday and is Scottsdale resident, the course looks an ideal fit for him. Yu won this by two shots yesterday and should have enough again.
