Takumi had an outstanding amateur career, holding the number 1 ranking for 55 weeks.  He won the 2018 Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship and made the cut at the Masters in 2019.  Not content with winning amateur events, Takumi won the 2019 Mitsui Sumitomo VISA Taiheiyo Masters on the Japanese Tour before turning pro.  

It was a smooth transition to the paid ranks as towards the end of 2021 he won the Dunlop Phoenix on the Japanese Tour and posted several top 5 finishes.
