A number of golfers contracted to the LIV Golf Tour will tee it up this week. Several players, including Rory McIlroy and Billy Horschel, have made their displeasure known at this fact.
2023 BMW PGA Championship Trends
Winning Score
Since the Championship moved to Autumn in 2019 we have had winning scores of -17, -19 (twice) and -20. However, last year's winning score of -17 was only a three round event. Expect a score close to 20 under par to prevail this week.
Course Form
Seven of the last eight winners had posted a top 8 finish here prior to winning. Course form is very important.
Recent Form
Interestingly, three of the past five winners had missed the cut on their last start before teeing it up at the BMW PGA Championship. However, all five had at least one top 25 finish in their last two starts.
World Ranking
The world ranking of the past six champions has been 23-28-15-60-33-13.
Nationality
Five of the past nine winners were British or Irish so they are favoured slightly but no significant emphasis on nationality.

2023 BMW PGA Championship In Play Advice
Tough Holes
The 1st and 3rd holes played as the hardest holes in 2022. Keep this in mind if you are betting in-play.
Birdie Holes
Three of the four par 5s (4th, 12th and 18th) play well under par and were the easiest on the course in 2022. Interestingly, the par three 2nd and 14th holes were the easiest holes after the three par 5s mentioned.
Fast or Slow Start
Every winner in the last six years has been inside the top 30 after the opening round. Indeed, four of those six winners were inside the top 5 after the opening round. Only one winner in the last six years has been outside the top 5 at halfway (Alex Noren - 2017). Noren is also the only player to have come from outside the top three after 54 holes.

2023 BMW PGA Championship Round 3 Summary
Ludvig Aberg once again impressed to open up a two shot lead at the top of the BMW PGA Championship.
2023 BMW PGA Championship Round 4 Weather
Thunderstorms are forecast for later in the day so tee times have been brough forward. Rain showers possible with the wind peaking at 10mph.
Back or Lay The Favourite?
Ludvig Aberg is now 6/4 favourite with a two shot lead going into the final round. Four of the last five winners of this event have led going into the final round and the young Swede certainly looks capable of making it five in the last six.
The weather could yet have an impact on this event and with rain possible for the final round, we're in no rush to take the 6/4 on Aberg.
BMW PGA Championship Bets We Considered
Jon Rahm looked like he was set to make up ground on Aberg in round three but the Spaniard appeared to lose control of his swing for a stretch of holes on the back nine. He was under consideration once again but with his swing clearly not fully functional, we opted against adding him to the staking plan.

2023 BMW PGA Championship Round 2 Summary
Round one leader, Marcus Helligkilde, has four holes left to play of his second round but his fellow Scandinavians, Ludvig Aberg and Sebastian Soderberg, have taken on the mantle and lead by a stroke at close of play on Friday. Twenty four players are within four shots of the lead to set up a fascinating final 36 holes.
2023 BMW PGA Championship Round 3 Weather
Sunny intervals. Wind 4-7mph.
Back or Lay The Favourite?
Ludvig Aberg is 4/1 favourite. The young Swede is riding the crest of a wave at the moment having won the European Masters and been selected for the European Ryder Cup team in the last couple of weeks.
Since turning professional in June, Aberg has been inside the top ten on six occasions after 36 holes. In five of those tournaments his Saturday score has seen him slip down the leaderboard but it should be noted that most recently, at the European Masters, he improved his position through round three. He's yet to lead as a professional so this is unchartered territory somewhat but he can't be written off given his enormous talent. With that said, there are plenty of quality players waiting in the wings and 4/1 isn't a price that appeals to us.
BMW PGA Championship Bets We Considered
Each of the last five winners of this event have been inside the top SIX at the halfway stage and with plenty of proven winners near the top, we aren't looking much further down than the group of players at six under par.
Jon Rahm was the player who we looked at very closely before ultimately siding with someone else. Rahm found his game towards the end of his second round, playing his last ten holes in six under par. He's a definite threat given he possesses a couple of runner up finishes at Wentworth.

2023 BMW PGA Championship Round 1 Summary
Marcus Helligkilde fired a 64 which was enough for a two shot lead. Many of the pre-tournament favourites struggled with Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm failing to break 70. Matt Fitzpatrick is the closest challenger out of the Ryder Cup team after a 66.
2023 BMW PGA Championship Round 2 Weather
Early AM patchy fog possible through 0830, then partly sunny and warm. Wind 8-12mph.
Back or Lay The Favourite?
Matt Fitzpatrick is 5/1 favourite and it looks a short price given how he played today. The 66 was largely built with the putter, ranking 2nd SG: Putting, and he was extremely fortunate not to lose a ball on the back nine with a tree saving him from out of bounds. He looked ragged tee to green and also has to deal with how he threw away a great opportunity in Crans two weeks ago.
BMW PGA Championship Bets We Considered
Every winner in the last six years has been inside the top 30 after the opening round. Indeed, four of those six winners were inside the top 5 after the opening round., giving us 11 players to consider if following that trend. Wentworth is a hard place to play catch up and we wouldn't want to look too far back at this stage.
Marcus Helligkilde made a lot of appeal at 16/1, he ranked 1st tee to green today and is a player that's been on our radar the last few weeks, as our subscribers can testify! Pablo Larrazabal made some appeal at 55's but we marginally prefer another player this evening.
