Two Runner up finishes and two 3rd places backed up his consistency and he was easily one of the most improved players on tour.
He has continued his ascent in 2022 with wins at Valspar and the Charles Schwab Challenge.
Pressure Performance Analysis
Sam can be supported under pressure with four wins since October 2021, especially when a few shots behind the leader at a juicy price. His Golf Betting Club Pressure Performance Rating is ⭐⭐⭐⭐.
✅ Began the Canadian Open 2 shots behind the leaders and shot 65 to lose by 4 shots to Rory McIlroy. A solid performance despite not getting the job done.
✅ Won the Charles Schwab Challenge from 7 shots behind Scottie Scheffler with a final round 65. Defeated Scheffler in the plaoff with ANOTHER monster putt for birdie!
✅ Won the Valspar Championship from 3 shots behind Davis Riley with a final round 69. Defeated Riley in the plaoff with a monster putt for birdie.
❌ Started two shot back at the weather affected PLAYERS Championship and shot 76 to finish NINE back of winner Smith. Worst score from all the leaders.
➖ Started the final round of the Hero Challenge six shots behind Morikawa. Shot 69 to finish 3 back but did hold a share of the lead on the back 9 before taking a triple bogey on the 14th hole!
✅ Began the final round 1 shot behinfd the leaders at the Sanderson Farms. Shot 67 to win by 1 shot, including four birdies in five holes on the back 9.
✅ Came from 8 shots back at the WGC FedEx to reach a playoff with a fabulous 64. Lost the playoff to Abraham Ancer after missing a 6ft putt to match Ancer's birdie.
❌ Led by 1 shot at the Byron Nelson and shot 70 to finish 3 shots behind K H Lee.
✅ Began the final round of the Valspar tied for the lead. Shot 68 to win his first PGA Tour tilte by 3 shots.
❌ Led by 1 shot with 18 holes to go at the Genesis Invitational. Would go on to shoot a 69 to finish 1 shot back. Burns held the solo lead at the end of each of the first three rounds but three bogeys in four holes on the back nine on Sunday cost him dearly.
❌ Led after the second and third rounds of the Vivint Houston Open but a final round 72 saw him slip to a T7 finish.
❌ Held a two-stroke lead after the second round of the Safeway Open before finishing T7. Marked his first lead/co-lead after any round on the PGA TOUR
Runs of 1-2 and 5-7-3 in 2021, he is a player who can be supported when he's hot.
