Guido turned pro in 2016 and learnt the pro ropes in 2017 and 2018 playing the Alps Tour and Challenge Tour. He nabbed the 13th card at European Tour Qualifying School in 2018 and made his European Tour debut in 2019. It didn't take Guido long to make his mark on the European Tour, winning the Magical Kenya Open in early 2019.
Guido recorded his first major top 5 at the 2021 US Open and appears to be more comfortable playing stateside these days.
Interestingly, he was one of the first signings to Niall Horan's (member of famous boy band, One Direction) golf management company, Modest Golf. Niall has subsequently commented that, “we’d been told, when Guido gets a sniff he’ll win. He’ll be streaky, but he’ll be good and they were right.”
Guido signed an equipment contract with Callaway in January 2020 which yielded mixed results. Whilst it did bring Guido a 4th place finish at the Oman Open early on, overall the year wasn't great and saw him slip outside the top 200 in the world rankings.
Pressure Performance Analysis
Guido is remarkable in contention. His Golf Betting Club Pressure Performance Rating is set at ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ on the basis of his record to date.
Began the final round of the Open De France 5 shots back of Rasmus Hojgaard and shot 62 to win by 1 shot. An amazing final round with a clutch shot on 18.
Began the final round of the Dutch Open 2 shots behind the leaders. Shot 75 to finish 7 shots behind the winner.
Shot a final round 68 to finish 4th at the US Open, a temendous performance under that sort of pressure for the first time.
Began the final round of the British Masters with a share of the lead. Shot 68 to reach a playoff where he lost to Richard Bland.
Had an opportunity to win at the Oman Open, starting the final round 1 stroke behind and shot 71 to finish 2 shots back winner, Sami Valimaki who shot 70.
Defeated Darius De Driel to win Belgian Knockout Matchplay competition.
Came from 1 behind Adri Arnaus at the Indian Open to win by 1 shot.
Avoid when rusty
In each of his 3 full years as a professional to date Guido has started the season slowly, recording several missed cuts. He's probably one to avoid in January and February until we see signs that he is able to come out the winter break firing.
Guido's first European Tour win (and one of his Alps Tour wins) came the week after a missed cut so we shouldn't be put off to win an event because he has had a missed cut the week before. In 2020 his only two top 10s came on the back of missed cuts.
Magical Kenya Open - 2019
"I like this moment," he had said at the time. "I like the pressure, it's like a drug. I love pressure, I love playing with a lot of people looking at me and a lot of cameras.
"There was a lot of pressure on the course. After the birdie at the 12th I was leading but it was tough. I just kept patient towards the end, that was it.”
