BIO
Darius had a breakout year in 2018/2019, coinciding with his 30th birthday in June 2019. Between July 2018 and August 2019 he recorded 2 wins on the Challenge tour, a 2nd place finish on the European Tour and 4 other top 10 finishes on the Challenge Tour to easily make this the best period of his golfing career to date (his world ranking jumped from 1370 to 136th in this time!). To those people who don’t believe in significant birthdays having an effect on golfers let Darius be your proof!
Significant info
Darius keeps a brief blog on his website www.dariusvandriel.com so it is worth looking at this if ever considering a bet on him. Darius also got engaged in May 2020.
Pressure Performance Analysis
Summary
Darius isn't one to side with on a Sunday when he's leading, his first win is likely to come from off the pace. His Golf Betting Club Pressure Performance Rating is set to ⭐⭐.
July 2022
❌ Started the final round of the BMW Open five shots behind Li but could only manage a 72 to finish 7 shots back.
August 2021
❌ Went into the final round of the ISPS Handa World Invitational in 4th place (albeit 5 shots off the pace). Carded a final round 70 to slip to 7th.
June 2021
➖ Darius was one shot behind (3rd place) going into the final round of the Porsche European Open. Carded a final round 70 to finish 2nd. Disappointly layed up on the par 5 last hole when he could have reached the green with a 3 wood.
July 2020
❌ Began the final round of the Austrian Open 1 shot behind leader Marc Warren however could only shoot 72 to finish 3 shots behind Warren who shot 70.
August 2019
✅ Won with weekend scores of 63-64 when coming from 7 back at halfway at the Rolex Trophy.
July 2019
❌ He held the solo 54 hole lead (2 shot lead) at the D+D Real Slovakia Challenge. He shot a disastrous 76 to slip out of the places completely on that occasion.
June 2019
✅ Finished runner up to Guido Migliozzi at the Belgian Knockout matchplay event on the European Tour. Guido was just too good in the final.
July 2018
✅ First Challenge Tour win at the Euram Open was converted with a final round 67 when he held the joint lead through 54 holes.
Trends
Time of the year 📆
Darius's two wins on the Challenge Tour came at the end of July and late August so the summer months may suit him better when conditions are firm and fast. Both wins were also low scoring events (his 2018 win included a 62 and a 64, whilst his 2019 win included a 63 and a 64) so he's better at events where birdies are plentiful.
Loves a birdie fest 🐤
Darius is a player who can go low and in 2019 posted five rounds of 64 or better on the Challenge Tour. He posted a couple of sub 66 rounds on he European Tour in 2020.

Darius practices at Bernardus Golf and with the Dutch Open returning there again in 2022, he'll fancy his chances of improving on his 4th place finish in 2021.

Significant Quotes
2019 Rolex Trophy
“I holed my nine iron on 14 for eagle and that’s when I started to look at the leaderboard, which might have been the wrong thing to do. I played a little too carefully over the last few holes and I was happy to close it out in the end, but my lead was four shots at one point. In the end it came down to one shot, having two putts from six foot to win, which wasn’t what I had in mind after being four ahead.”
