2024 Shriners Children's Open Trends
Winning Score
Generally in excess of -20, but in 2017 we saw -9 win. Sungjae Im won with 24 under par in 2021 and Tom Kim won with -20 last year. Expect another -20 or better.
Course Form
Five of the last six winners had top 15 finishes here prior to winning (Tom Kim, Kevin Na and Martin Laird were past champions). However, we've seen in previous years that course debutants and players with little experience can also flourish, Tom Kim won in 2022 on debut.
Age
Seven of the last ten winners were in their twenties. Rod Pampling (in his forties), Kevin Na and Martin Laird (both in their thirties) were the exceptions.
Recent Form
Eight of the past nine champions had recorded a top 20 in their previous three starts.
Favourites or Outsiders
Kim was one of the favourites when winning the past two years but outsiders have a great record here. Martin Laird won in 2020 at 275/1 and he added to winners such as Rod Pampling, Smylie Kaufman and Ben Martin.
Winning Profile
Despite outsiders thriving, eight of the last eleven winners had won on the PGA Tour before.
First Round
The last SEVEN first round leaders have teed off in the morning wave. The top three in 2022 and the top four in 2021 after round one teed off early. The wind tends to kick up in the afternoon here so morning players on day 1 have a scoring advantage.

2024 Shriners Children's Open Stats Analysis
SG: Tee to Green
Tom Kim was 12th last year and 3rd in 2022. Sungjae Im was 1st in 2021. Martin Laird was 2nd in 2020. A strong all round game certainly goes a long way at TPC Summerlin.
SG: Off the tee
Tom Kim was 32nd in this category in 2022 and 42nd when winning in 2023. Sungjae Im was 9th in 2021 but the two champions (Martin Laird and Kevin Na) prior to him both ranked outside the top 40 for SG: Off The Tee. Rod Pampling, winner in 2016, also ranked outside the top 50 in this category. It's possible to win without a commanding driving performance.
SG: Approach
Six of the last eight champions have ranked inside the top seven in this category. Neither Kevin Na nor Patrick Cantlay ranked inside the top 20 for SG: Approach so again it is possible to win if other areas compensate. Strong iron play is definitely preferred.
SG: Around The Green
Rod Pampling is the only champion in the past five years to rank inside the top 10 for SG: Around The Green. Tom Kim was 19th in 2022 and Sunjae Im was 13th the year before though. Other stats are preferred.
SG: Putting
Surprisingly, for a low scoring event, a hot putter hasn't been essential for the winner. Rankings of the past eight winners:
Tom Kim - 4th
Tom Kim - 3rd
Sungjae Im - 9th
Martin Laird - 27th
Kevin Na - 1st
Bryson DeChambeau - 60th
Patrick Cantlay - 43rd
Rod Pampling - 52nd
2024 Shriners Children's Open In Play Advice
Tough Holes
The front 9 is considerably harder than the back. In particular, the 3rd and 8th are tricky holes. The 17th hole can cause problems with water in play.
Birdie Holes
The par 5s all play well under par and the 15th is a driveable par 4.
Fast or Slow Start
Surprisingly, only five winners in the past ten years have opened up with a 66 or better - Kim (65), Im (63), Martin Laird (65), Bryson DeChambeau (66) and Rod Pampling (60).

2024 Shriners Children's Open Round 3 Conditions
The strong winds from Friday subsided and a gentle breeze meant a return to good scoring.
2024 Shriners Children's Open Round 4 Weather Bias?
The final round looks set to be played in perfect conditions with sunshine and a wind of 5-10mph. Expect low scores.
2024 Shriners Children's Open Round 4 Outright Market Summary
J.T. Poston is the general 3/1 favourite with five holes remaining of his third round. Currently tied for the lead, Poston will have good birdie chances at the 15th and 16th holes to break away from the chasing pack.
The two time PGA Tour winner tops the SG: Tee to Green rankings so far this week and certainly hasn't been putting himself in too much bother. His only dropped shots came in round two and he should go close given he has shown in the past that he is a capable front runner. Poston's win at the 2022 John Deere came when leading from the front and he can count himself a little unlucky that he didn't also win the 2021 Barbasol Championship when leading in the final round until his ball rolled out of bounds by an inch at the 15th hole. That error cost him a double bogey and allowed Seamus Power to force a playoff, which Power would go on to win at the 6th hole.
Four of the last five winners of this event have held the third round lead but barring a hot finish from Poston in round three, that trend could well be broken. Twelve players are currently within two shots of the lead and with conditions set to be scoreable, there could be a surprise winner from off the pace. Having backed Alejandro Tosti at 175/1 and Norman Xiong at 125/1 and 80/1, we're certainly hoping that's the case.

2024 Shriners Children's Open Round 2 Conditions
Strong winds meant there was no play at all in the morning, with play resuming at lunchtime. As a result, most of the scheduled afternoon starters were only able to play a few holes of their second round.
2024 Shriners Children's Open Round 3 Weather Bias?
The players yet to complete their second round look to have a significant advantage with the wind set to peak at 15mph today. Those playing their second round yesterday had to contend with winds stronger than that and it wouldn't be a surprise to see the leaderboard dominated by players who played AM-PM once the second round is completed.
2024 Shriners Children's Open Round 3 Outright Market Summary
Taylor Pendrith is the general 11/4 favourite and isn't an unattractive bet considering he has al three par 5 holes left to play and will resume play today with a wedge in his hand from the fairway on the 7th hole. Conditions will certainly be easier than yesterday and the leader is expected to be further under par by the end of the day. Pendrith backers will certainly take heart from the fact that three of the last five winners of this event led at the halfway stage.

2024 Shriners Children's Open Round 1 Conditions
Several players were unable to complete their first round due to darkness but conditions were good, with a gentle breeze in the morning and the wind picking up in the afternoon. Once again, a morning starter led after round one.
2024 Shriners Children's Open Round 2 Weather Bias?
Sunny with strong winds of 25-35mph throughout. Gusts could be up to 50mph! The wind speeds will decrease late afternoon, so those starting latest could have the best of things for their final holes.
2024 Shriners Children's Open Round 2 Outright Market Summary
Taylor Pendrith has a three shot lead at the top of the leaderboard and finds himself as a best price 10/3 to win his second PGA Tour event of the year. Pendrith may have been under consideration were it not for the weather forecast, which suggests there could be quite a bit of movement by the end of round two.
Three of the last five winners have been outside the top ten after round one but it is important to be up with the leaders after round two. Four of the last five winners have been inside the top three at the halfway stage. A strong round today is therefore important.
