Significant Info To Be Aware Of
Continue to exercise caution in relation to Covid-19 related withdrawals. It's also early in a new season on the PGA Tour so some players may be playing with a fresh mindset.
Trends
Winning Score
Generally in excess of -20, but in 2017 we saw -9 win. Expect another -20 or better.
Course Form
The last three winners all had top 7 finishes here prior to winning (Kevin Na and Martin Laird were past champions). However, we've seen in previous years that course debutants and players with little experience can also flourish.
Recent Form:
Five of the past six champions had recorded a top 20 in their previous three starts.
Favourites or Outsiders
Outsiders have a great record here. Martin Laird won last year at 275/1 and he added to winners such as Rod Pampling, Smylie Kaufman and Ben Martin.
Winning Profile
Five of the last eight winners had won on the PGA Tour before.
First Round
The last five first round leaders have teed off in the morning wave. The wind tends to kick up in the afternoon here so morning players on day 1 have a scoring advantage.
Note for 2022:
Both Martin Laird and Sungjae Im ranked top 21 for SG: Tee To Green in their last start prior to winning.
Stats Analysis
Driving
The past two champions (Martin Laird and Kevin Na) both ranked outside the top 40 for SG: Off The Tee. Rod Pampling, winner in 2016, also ranked outside the top 50 in this category. It's possible to win without a commanding driving performance.
Approach
Neither Kevin Na nor Patrick Cantlay ranked inside the top 20 for SG: Approach so again it is possible to win if other areas compensate. However, three of the last five champions have ranked inside the top 7 in this category. Strong iron play is definitely preferred.
Around The Green
Rod Pampling is the only champion in the past five years to rank inside the top 10 for SG: Around The Green.
Putting
Surprisingly, for a low scoring event, a hot putter hasn't been essential for the winner. Rankings of the past five winners:
Martin Laird - 27th
Kevin Na - 1st
Bryson DeChambeau - 60th
Patrick Cantlay - 43rd
Rod Pampling - 52nd
In Play
Tough Holes
The front 9 is considerably harder than the back. In particular, the 3rd and 8th are tricky holes. The 17th hole can cause problems with water in play.
Birdie Holes
The par 5s all play well under par and the 15th is a driveable par 4.
Fast or Slow Start
Surprisingly, only three winners in the past seven years have opened up with a 66 or better (Martin Laird (65), Bryson DeChambeau (66) and Rod Pampling (60)).

Adam Schenk leads by one at the Shriners Children's Open as he bids to win his first PGA Tour title.
The American led the Barracuda Championship by 4 points (modified stableford scoring) in August but failed to convert, slipping to 4th. Schenk's only professional win came in 2017, on the Korn Ferry Tour, and it's hard to see him closing this out. There are a number of high quality players chasing him and he's likely to feel the pressure.
Schenk might lead but Matt Wolff is the 11/4 favourite going into the final round. The young American lost out in a playoff for this title last year and will seek to go one better this time around. He's playing some great golf this week (2nd SG: Tee To Green) and if it weren't for he triple bogey he made on the 3rd hole yesterday, he'd be leading.
Wolff's off course problems have been well documented and he'd surely have more than one PGA Tour win by now had he not had his demons. Wolff stated in his post round interview that he was "really confident" with where his game is at and favouritism is justified.
Sam Burns is a general 10/3 chance to win for the second consecutive week. A poor back nine meant he was unable to get closer to the leaders. Last week's win demonstrated just how far he has come when dealing with pressure and he too has to be respected.
The weather forecast for the 4th round is sunny with the wind not forecast to exceed 5mph.
Round 4 Bet
- 1.5pts Win Only Andrew Putnam 12/1 @ Bet365
Andrew has been playing nicely this week, ranking 8th SG: Tee To Green. His long game has been getting better each day and we like him to win on the PGA Tour for the 2nd time. He put in a strong performance when last in contention at the Barracuda Championship and odds of 12/1 are sufficiently tempting. Matt Wolff and Sam Burns are the two danger men but we're prepared to take them on with a player who is a fast finisher.

Sungjae Im and Chad Ramey lead the way after the opening 36 holes at the Shriners Children's Open.
Im is now the 3/1 favourite to win his 2nd PGA Tour title. He's yet to drop a shot this week and has looked solid with every aspect of his game. He's likely to be up there come Sunday evening but we're happy to look further down the leaderboard for today's bet.
Ramey shouldn't be dismissed completely. He converted the 54 hole lead earlier this season at the Live and Work in Maine Open on the Korn Ferry Tour. A bogey free final round at that event saw him win for the first time on that tour.
Sam Burns is a close 2nd favourite (7/2) to Sungjae Im and he's be our preferred option of the two players at the head of the betting. Burns won last week and moved through the field ominously yesterday.
Four of the last five winners have been inside the top four at halfway, with only Patrick Cantlay in 2017 coming from further back. Even Cantlay was 8th at halfway that year, so players up with the pace are preferred.
The weather forecast for the 3rd round is sunny with the wind not forecast to exceed 7mph.
Round 3 Bet
- 0.5pts Each Way Harry Hall 66/1 @ Unibet (1/4 1-4)
Hall is 11 under par and three off the pace going into the 3rd round . He estimates he's played this course over 100 times, having made this his base since turning professional. He described his 11 under par score as "pretty common for me out here in a normal week" and that level of comfort may well see him go close come Sunday. He's driving it nicely and aside from some below average iron play on day one, all aspects of his game are in sync. He was in bullish mood in his post-round interview yesterday and we like anything 50/1 or better for the youngster who won earlier this season on the Korn Ferry Tour.

Five Players Tied | -7 |
A blistering 61 from Sung Kang set the pace at the Shriners Children's Open. The South Korean enjoys a two shot lead and is now a best price 22/1 to win wire to wire.
The top four players were all morning starters as the breeze picked up a little in the afternoon. Matt Wolff and Matt Jones were the only players to break into the top 10 from the morning wave and Wolff now finds himself 11/1 2nd favourite.
Sungjae Im is the only player in single figure odds, having been priced up as 8/1 favourite. The South Korean has finished top 15 in each of his two appearances here and has been in solid form of late. However, he's a little short in our eyes given the forecast conditions today. This event has often thrown up shock winners and backing the 8/1 favourite at this stage hold no appeal.
Rod Pampling (2016) was the last player to win when leading after the first round. In four of the last five years, winners have been inside the top 15 after the opening round so it isn't usually a course to play catch up on. However, Kevin Na did recover from a slow start in 2019 to win, he was 43rd after the opening round.
The weather forecast for the 2nd round is mixed with winds reaching 17mph in the afternoon and rain showers possible in the morning.
Round 2 Bets
- 0.5pts Each Way Brandon Hagy 100/1 @ Unibet (1/4 1-5)
Big hitting Brandon Hagy opened with a 65 and is four back of Kang. He is first off today so has an excellent chance to attack early on. Five starts ago he finished 5th at Barracuda where attacking golf is rewarded and 2nd at Honda earlier in the year shows his class. A standout price at Unibet today is worth taking.
- 0.5pts Each Way Harry Higgs 125/1 @ William Hill (1/5 1-6)
Harry usually saves his best performances for this time of year, highlighted by his two best finishes on tour - 2nd at the Safeway Open and 2nd at the Bermuda Championship. He has opened up with a bogey free 66 and has a nice early start tomorrow to make his move. Ranked 5th tee to green with 16/18 greens hit so game looks in good shape.
