2024 Australian Open Tips

The leaderboard in 2022 was dominated by big hitters so that may be an angle in this week. A top four of Adrian Meronk, Adam Scott, Min Woo Lee may suggest the best players did well here, but the addition of Haydn Barron in the top four strengthens the argument it's a good course for bombers.

Four of the top five had finished inside the top 30 at the Australian PGA the precious week so we want someone in decent form. With that said, only Min Woo Lee posted back to back top 10's.

2024 Australian Open Round 3 Conditions

Overcast with rain showers.

2024 Australian Open Round 4 Weather Bias?

Rain showers possible.  Wind 10-15mph.

2024 Australian Open Round 3 Outright Market Summary

Lucas Herbert (9/4) was unable to maintain his advantage over the field and now finds himself tied at the top with DP World Tour rookie, Riggs Johnston.  Herbert described his third round as "frustrating," with several birdie opportunities spurned as he churned out 16 pars.

Only one of Herbert's five career wins (2021 Irish Open) have come when leading from the front with a round to go and he's a better chaser than he is front runner.  With Johnston likely to be overawed by the situation (he couldn't remember when he last won a tournament when interviewed after his third round!), Joaquin Niemann could well be Herbert's biggest threat and odds of 7/2 aren't unreasonable.  Niemann won this event last year and he was under strong consideration as an addition to the staking plan.

However, having advised Jasper Stubbs, Harrison Crowe and Elvis Smylie to subscribers at 250/1, 200/1 and 55/1 respectively, we're hoping one of them manages to take the title from off the pace.  Smylie in particular looks to be underrated by the bookmakers given his win last week in strong company.

2024 Australian Open Round 2 Conditions

Sunny with the wind picking up slightly in the afternoon once again.

2024 Australian Open Round 3 Weather Bias?

The conditions have played harder in the afternoon so it may be possible for someone to shoot a low score from well back.

2024 Australian Open Round 3 Outright Market Summary

Lucas Herbert has taken command of the event after a shocking back nine by Cameron Smith. Hebert is now 10/11 favourite to convert. Our 50/1 pre-event pick Elvis Smylie has made a great move and is now deemed his closest challenger at 14/1.

Smylie and the chasers should take hope that Meronk was five behind Adam Scott at halfway in 2022, the last time the event was at this venue. Although a winner in Australia a few weeks ago, Herbert has let a few chances slip this year and had a few poor final rounds. If one of the chasing pack can score well, he is beatable.

It's Smylie that looks his biggest threat though and we are optimistic he will challenge Herbert over the weekend.

2024 Australian Open Round 1 Conditions

Sunny with the wind picking up slightly in the afternoon. A draw bias emerged as a result.

2024 Australian Open Round 2 Weather Bias?

The wind looks consistent all day but we should maybe consider the greens may have been better in the morning yesterday and the same may happen today.

2024 Australian Open Round 2 Outright Market Summary

The market now has two heavy favourites with Herbert 11/4 and Smith 7/2. Both players have to be respected given their class and ability to close out a tournament when in contention.

Herbert spoke after the round that he barely holed a putt all day so his ball striking was of a high standard, whilst Smith has had his eye on winning this event for a long time, claiming he the Australian Open and The Masters are the two he really wants to win.

Despite of this, Elvis Smylie showed last week the favourites can be upset and we are happy to look for value further down.
